Post-Approval FAQ
CAA Clinical Observer Program · HCA Florida Trinity Hospital
Congratulations on being approved. Here's what to know before and during your observation day.
Can I call or text before my scheduled day?
Please don't. Your assigned provider is a full-time clinician, often in the OR and unable to take calls. Only reach out on your scheduled day, as instructed in your approval email. For anything beforehand, email us and we'll respond promptly.
What if I want to reschedule my days?
Due to the high demand of the program and the very limited spots, it can be challenging, but we always do our best to accommodate. To help, please reach out via email with a range of dates or multiple dates, the more you give, the better your chances of finding an available date.
Can I request to shadow a specific specialty or a specific provider?
The idea of the program is to get you exposed to the anesthesiologist assistant environment, and we guarantee that, based on the day's case load, we try our best to give you all the experiences we can, including:
OB · GYN · oncology · thoracic · ortho · spine · urology
We have nearly every specialty aside from pediatrics and hearts. You can always nicely ask if you'd like to be somewhere specific; that decision is up to the coordinator and preceptor. Just please remember the goal of the program is anesthesia, regardless of the specialty or provider.
Is two days (20 hours) enough to apply to AA programs?
Absolutely. What's special about Trinity is that several of our providers are full-time faculty at the Nova Southeastern University Anesthesiologist Assistant Program, and they're part of the admissions process. We asked them directly about shadowing hours, and they confirmed that 20 hours is more than enough and does not hinder an application in any way. That's exactly why we set two days as our standard, based on their advice. 20 hours is more than what you need. That said, as mentioned above, if you'd like more days, we're more than happy to provide them when available.
How do I get my program shadowing forms requested by AA schools?
You don't need to print or bring any forms, it's all managed electronically and remotely for everyone's convenience. On your last scheduled day, you'll get an email with specific instructions on how to request these documents. It's an easy, straightforward process that takes two minutes.
Can I request to shadow an additional day or two?
Historically, we have granted extra days to several people. As mentioned, due to high demand and the fact that applicants come from different states, scheduling can be a little challenging. The coordinators would be more than happy to grant that request after you complete at least two days, just ask them while you're there and they'll do their best.
When and where do I arrive?
6:45 AM sharp at the Emergency Department reception (rear of building), 9330 SR-54 E, Trinity, FL 34655. Report to Security for a visitor pass, then group-text both coordinators.
Where do I park?
Anywhere there's public (unmarked) parking, the closer to the ER the better, unless you like to walk.
What should I wear and bring?
Scrubs are provided, you'll change on arrival. Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and don't forget your photo ID.
How long can I stay?
Observation begins at 6:45 AM and you may stay as many hours as you'd like, as long as there are cases available.
